The following results were published today by the Metropolitan Police service and we have listed the Islamophobic crimes with specific percentage increments. Whilst the TELL MAMA project picked up a large rise in anti-Muslim prejudiced incidents post Woolwich, we saw a downturn in the peak about 10 days later though we have clearly seen that the figures have not gone back down to the levels that they were pre-Woolwich. Numbers therefore remain stubbornly higher than they were pre-Woolwich and the figures by the Metropolitan Police Service also show this. A comparison of Islamophobic hate crimes from August 2012 through to August 2013 show a 92% increment and this is significant and confirms what we are observing through TELL MAMA; that anti-Muslim prejudice is at higher levels if we compare data within TELL MAMA from August 2013 to August 2012.

So to those who believe anti-Muslim prejudice or Islamophobia does not exist, or has not changed, these figures clearly show a significant change in Islamophobic hate crimes over the year. Whether or not the ‘base-line’ has altered is something we will keep a firm eye on though our data within TELL MAMA shows a stubborness for the incidents to drop to pre-Woolwich levels.
