West Midlands Police are investigating the abhorrent vandalism of a mosque in Birmingham, as worshippers have expressed their fears and growing vulnerability following a spate of anti-Muslim and Islamophobic incidents in recent weeks.
A member of Tell MAMA’s outreach team attended the mosque to provide our ongoing support and photographed the graffiti, which included statements like “Islamic w*nkers”, “scum” and “terrorist scum bags” which happened on 31 March.

We continue to liaise with West Midlands Police and will endeavour to provide further updates where possible, as we provide support and assistance to those impacted.
To repeat calls we made in recent months: the security of mosques and the safety of worshippers, like at any place of worship, is paramount. Despite a governmental pledge to increase funding for faith institutions, we need a more cohesive strategy from the government, as in recent months, mosques have faced racist graffiti and other forms of targeting.
