As many people celebrated a New Year in Sweden, anti-Muslim bigots sent a Molotov cocktail through the window of a mosque in Uppsala. The attack took place at around 4:30 am on New Year’s Day. Anti-Muslim Graffiti was also daubed on the external walls of the mosque.
This is the third attack within the space of 2 weeks with mosque attacks taking place in Eskilstuna in the East of Stockholm. On the 29th of December a second mosque was hit in the Swedish town of Eslov.
A leading Swedish activist in the Muslim community spoke to TELL MAMA on the basis of anonymity. He stated:
“The Muslim Community is very scared at this moment in time and the Government have condemned the attacks though the problems with the Far Right Swedish Democrats destabilising the Government has meant that the focus has been on building a stable Government. Anti-Muslim hate has taken a back seat and we are now seeing the problems of a lack of Governmental action.”
