These are the April 2014 Metropolitan Police Hate Crime figures for Islamophobia and antisemitism. Once again, the boroughs of  Tower Hamlets, Southwark, Greenwich, Camden and  Lambeth shows a rise in Islamophobic hate crimes and these have been reflected in previous months and within figures released by the MET police force.

The Islamophobic hate crimes in these boroughs have remained higher than in April 2013 and this may partly be due to hate crime reporting drives to report in hate crimes to borough police forces. However, we would expect that any hate crime promotional drive would show a small peak and then a trough as the campaign drew to a close, yet in these boroughs, the percentage rise in hate crimes when compared to 2013 have remained stubbornly higher. Also, the overall percentage rise in Islamophobic hate crimes in April 2014 when compared to April 2013, show a 70% plus rise.

Lastly, what is also of concern is the rise in antisemitic hate crimes in Hackney where there is a large Orthodox Jewish community. Finally, whilst the numbers in Southwark are small, (so that any small peaks mean a large percentage rise), there is nonetheless a rise in antisemitic hate crime reporting in the Borough.
