Tell MAMA has been receiving significant reports indicating higher levels of street based aggression affecting British Muslims and with a number of anti-Muslim stickers and posters reported in that are particularly alarming through their use of language.

In particular, of concern to us are physical threats and forms of assault that are being reported in by visible Muslims – mainly women. These women wear the Hijab and the Niqab and with the latter repeating that they endure a higher frequency of threats and assaults and ongoing anti-Muslim hate incidents.

This is of particular concern to us given the social context of what is taking place in the United Kingdom. Far right rallies and demonstrations, incendiary language online through social media platforms and polarising political discourse may well be having impacts and effects at a street level on how British Muslims are being targeted.

Which is why reporting in anti-Muslim hate is so important. We within Tell MAMA provide the following services to victims of anti-Muslim hate; (i) casework support and advocacy for clients with police forces (ii) evidence collection where possible (iii) form filling and administration services for clients (iv) providing advice, information and signposting (v) support and help with attendance at court (vi) mental health counselling and emotional support. These services are provided in line with our organisational values and which are person centred and experiential based.
